The course of Scientific Writing will be conducted using Team Based Learning, or TBL. In practice, students are divided in teams of 5-6 people, which will remain fixed for the duration of the course. Each meeting will have a specific topic and everyone will be required to prepare before meeting in the classroom. In the classroom, the members of each team will work together to solve problems related to the topics studied.
Each meeting will take place as follows:
You sit in the classroom with the other members of your team
An individual online test is performed on the material to be studied for that meeting. Alone, without consulting others.
The same test is repeated, this time discussing within the team, giving a single team response
The teacher gives the correct answers and provides explanations. the teams that do not agree can present a written appeal
The teams then face a few online exercises, that use the information studied for the day, and the teacher provides feedback
The advantages of this technique are many: you learn to work in a group, you learn in a practical way, you do not need to study further for the exam. There are also disadvantages, of course: you have to study before the meetings, you have to stay awake and collaborate with the team during the meetings, you have to be there. The website will be used to keep in touch and to present the material to be studied.
The various tests (individual and group) will NOT be used for the final grade, but will serve only as a presence test and for evaluation of the course progress
The final evaluation will consist of a written, online commentary of a scientific article in the context of a clinical problem. Obviously it will be individual. In the last meeting before the test we will do a "test of the test" in order to become familiar with the test.
In addition to the commentary, to complete the course you will also be asked to fill out an anonymous questionnaire of reflection and feedback on the course and a peer evaluation form of the components of your team. This too will NOT be used for graing but only to monitor the progress of the teams. It also serves to make all the team members responsible and to give proper recognition to those who will seem to have contributed more to your learning.
