We suggest the knowledge of the following items:
- macroscopic and microscopic human anatomy,
- cell morphology and tissue classification;
- general pathology and physiopathology;
- morphology of elementary cellular lesions, both reversible (cellular swelling, idropico-vacuolar degeneration) and irreversibile (colliquative and coagulative necrosis), and tissue repair;
- morphology of apoptotic process its role in pathology;
- morphology of mesenchimal degenerative processes as hyalinosis, fibrosis, amiloidosis;
- vascular diseases: hemorrhagia, thrombosis, embolia; shock; morphology of acute and chronic stasis; causes and local/systemic effects of ischemia with reference to anatomical and functional state of circulation (terminal circulation, presence and efficiency of collateral flow);
- morphology of pathological immunoreactions and their role in the genesis of tissue lesions, in transplant rejection, in autoimmune diseases;
- tissue lesions in the main storage diseases (glicogenosis, mucopolisaccaridosis, lipidosis, siderosis);
- morphology of inflammatory lesions (acute, chronic and granulomatous); complications; tissue repair; types of exudates; abscess; ulcer;
- anomalies of cell proliferation (atrophia, hypertrophia, hyperplasia, metaplasia, dysplasia), with particular regard to morphological precursors of neoplasia;
- bases for histotype classification of the tumors, for malignancy grading and staging.
