The first part of the course examines the international means of dispute settlement, both of diplomatic and judicial character. The course also analyses some problems that have recently occurred, such as, for example, the overlap between different organs of dispute settlement and the effects of the decisions of international courts with respect to domestic legal orders. Special attention is paid to the dispute settlement regime of the International Court of Justice. Finally, this course examines the judicial regimes that were established by the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and the World Trade Organization.
The second part of the course is devoted to the analysis of specific cases dealt with by the International Court of Justice and other international organs for the settlement of dispute.
