Students’ knowledge of the subjects listed above (see "Course content") will be tested. Students will translate and comment upon Lucretius, De rerum natura book 5 and Seneca, De providentia. A good knowledge of the authors listed below is required:
Cato, Plautus, Terentius, Lucrece, Catullus, Varro, Cicero, Caesar, Sallust, Virgil, Horace, Tibullus, Propertius, Ovid, Phaedrus, Livy, Lucan, Persius, Seneca the Younger, Petronius, Pliny the Elder, Silius Italicus, Valerius Flaccus, Statius, Martial, Quintilian, Juvenal, Suetonius, Tacitus, Apuleius.
Students must also read one essay, suggested by the teacher on the basis of their main interests.
