The corse has two compenents: the Lettorato L2 activities and the 24 hours course in linguistics.
The purpose of the lettorato is to provide use of English, exposure to a variety of texts and tasks and to foster interaction with a native speaker trained teacher of English in order to reach a B2 level of communicative competence, as defined by the Council of Europe. The 24 hours course provides an introduction to corpus linguistics and translation studies through practical activities of translation from English to Italian (or Italian to English, for Erasmus students). At the end of the course the students should be able to:
• discuss the basic elements of linguistics and corpus linguistics
• Apply the knowledge and competences acquired during the course in producing a competent translation from English to Italian (foreign students may opt for a translation from Italian to English) of a short journalistic text
• Identify and discuss during the oral exam the main issues involved in the translation process, from the pre translation analysis to the revision of the target text, using an appropriate metalanguage.
• Identify and discuss the issues concerning the different possible recipients of the translation and the implications for the translation process.
