The students will be guided to the basic theory and practice of text analysis and corpus linguistics and to a basic understanding of the linguistic, structural, semantic, pragmatic and cultural elements which might be relevant in the translation process.
Translation activities will be used, both from a theoretical and practical perspective, to examine linguistic features –such as the importance of word order, patterns, text types, discourse, participants and contextual features- involved in the comprehension, interpretation and translation process.
They will be introduced to
• the key theoretical issues involved in the translation process,
• the use of the main translation and documentation tools and techniques available - including online software, dictionaries, glossaries, search engines, corpora etc.
The course requires the students to use the online moodle site: non attending students can ask the lecturer for access modalities.
