The course objective is to offer students the tools to build a good argument. At the end of the course the students will be able to: - analyze the argumentative structures; - identify the incorrect arguments; - adequately argue their theses; - know the tools for effective communication.
In terms of transversal skills, active participation in all the proposed training activities will enable students to organize group work and critically present the results achieved.
During the lessons, seminar activities and group work the following topics will be discussed: theories of argumentation; the rhetorical method; the tools of persuasion; the analysis of the argumentative structures; the construction of the argument.

The teaching activity consists of: a) lectures characterized by strong interactivity during which the active participation of students is required; b) thematic studies proposed to students. Each attending student is asked to present orally one or two chapters of a text chosen among those in the program.
Oral exam aimed at verifying the knowledge of the topics of the course and the ability to critically discuss the proposed themes. Argumentative skills and the use of the theoretical tools proposed during the course will also be evaluated. Exam grade is calculated as follows: the results of the oral test will weigh for 75%; the oral presentation (only for attending students) and the written report for 25%. Non-attending students will take only the oral exam. The exam program is the same for attending and non-attending students. However non-attending students are requested to contact the teacher.
