- General Pathology
The topics are related to the pathophysiological mechanisms of diseases and concern in particular:
• the main chemical, physical and biological causes of disease and their effects;
• reactions to damage that are determinant in the healing process or disease;
• the etio-pathogenesis of the most common diseases.
Introduction to pathology
Diet and disease: atherosclerosis, risk factors and vascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, alcohol abuse and other dependence diseases, acute and chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, malnutrition and malabsorption.
Fundamental concepts in drug absorption, distribution and elimination. Mechanism of drug action (classification of receptors and drug effects). Kinetics of drug and metabolites following drug administration. Pharmacokinetic parameters. Causes of variability in human drug response, adverse drug reactions (ADR). Pharmacovigilance. Factors which affect therapeutic outcome: drug-drug interactions, genetic factors.
