Prerequisites: 1. Knowledge of the principles of European history of the XX century; 2. General knowledge of European cultural history (fundamental terms and concepts); 3. Reading skills and comprehension of texts in German.
The course aims to give a good knowledge of German history and the history of German literature in the years between the Weimar Republic and the Second World War.

Literary skills: phases, characters and authors of the German literature
Students are required to read texts of Fallada, Brecht, von Salomon, Uhlman, Th. Mann; they have to consider the first three films of the first series of Heimat( Reiz) and read parts of the History of the Third Reich of Shirer.
The course includes: lectures, analysis of selected texts, elaboration and discussion of papers written by students. There will be a final exam and a written report to be completed during the course.
