Requirements:

The exam of “Business Administration” must be passed. This implies that students have had learned the fundamental knowledges related to the business entities, their structure and their dynamics

Learning objectives

This course introduces the underlying concepts of financial reporting, basic practices involved in the preparation of financial statements and the interpretation of the resulting information.
By the end of the course, students should:
- have a foundation of understanding of the principles which underpin financial reporting;
- have a foundation of understanding of the content, meaning and limitations of financial reports;
- understand the basic recording procedures of financial accounting;
- be able to prepare a set of accounts, i.e. profit and loss account and balance sheet;
- be able to fully understand and interpret published Financial statements

Contents

The course illustrates the following fundamental concepts: a) how transactions among firms are recorded within accounts, b) the functioning of double-entry bookkeeping, c) the documents required for recording business transactions, d) the book-keeping entries recorded during the financial year, e) the book-keeping entries recorded at the end of the financial year, f) the principles and the accounting standards which underpin financial reporting, g) the Added Value, h) the documents published with the financial accounts

Students are requested to find the Civil Code articles on the Financial Statement (from art. 2423 to art. 2435 ter as recently changed by the Legislative Decree n° 139 of 2015.
Other materials and readings will be available to the students though the moodle platform of the course. In the same platform will be also available all the slides and tutorials (solved and to be solved)

Teaching methods

Classes, tutorials, seminars. Tutorials are much more linked with the bookkeeping competencies while the seminars are much more related to the financial reporting area

how learning is assessed:

The solution adoption to verify the learning is based on a written test- The competences we assumed within this course and related to its main objectives need to develop the ability of the students to solve exercises related to the bookkeeping. This is related to the accounting part and to the financial reporting area. The written test will include exercises related to the bookkeeping activity, multiple choice questions and open questions in order to cover the whole spectrum of competencies consistent with the objectives of the course
