1) Reading: The topics chosen for this course are taken from reviews such as the Economist or the Financial Times on the following themes:
- Companies,
- Companies and Finance,
- Brand Marketing, Advertising, Selling, Promoting, Products,
- Describing Graphs and Trends, (describing statistics)
- Job sector: Job Seeking, Recruitment, Career Management
- Companies and Productivity, Competition
- Innovation and Creativity (launching new products on the market)
- Fair Trade, Lobbying, Industrial Development
3) Grammar content:
- Present tenses
- Present perfect/past simple and Present perfect continuous
- Past simple, past continuous, past perfect simple /continuous
- Future forms: (be going to + infinitive, present continuous, will)
- Future perfect and future continuous.
- Conditional: (zero, first, second and third conditionals)
- Future time clauses
- The Passive: All forms
- Comparatives and superlatives (adverbs and adjectives)
- Adjectives, adverbs and adverbial phrases (for desbribing statistics)
- Phrasal verbs (used in economic context)
- Idioms (a selection of economic ones)
- Relative Pronouns and relative clauses (defining and non defining relative clauses)
- Modals of obligation, ability and possibility
- Past modals (Deduction: must/might/can't, etc. + have past participle)
- Structures after Wish
- Used to/ be used to/ get used to
- Gerunds and infinitives
- Clauses of purpose, cause and result (in order to, because of, as a result, due to, lead to etc...)
- Prepositions (those used for describing graphs and trends)
4) WRITING:
- letters, emails, faxes for writing complaints, apologies, requests, enquiries, job applications, Job applcation replies, invitations, giving information, writing instructions etc.
- CV writing.
