Domenico Beccafumi and the 'Maniera moderna'.
The course aims to analyze Domenico Beccafumi's training and activity during the first three decades of the XVI century, from the time of Pandolfo Petrucci to the arrangements for the arrival of Charles V in Siena. Domenico Beccafumi and his personality is presented considering the Sienese artistic contest. However, even the most important painters, active mainly in Florence, Perugia and Rome, who shared experience with Domenico are taken into account. A fundamental source for our studies is Vasari's Life of Domenico, expecially in order to know deeper his travels to Rome. In Rome Beccafumi met artists such as Peruzzi, Raffaello and Michelangelo, having the chance of knowing and elaborating independently these great models.
